Hi! I'm Peter Smith
My friends call me Pete!

Education, Training and Work

I was born in London and raised in a tiny town called Rainham, near Gillingham in Kent.

I studied my Business Studies degree in Leicester and following graduation went travelling for one year (India, Nepal, Singapore) ending up in Australia where I had to work as I had run out of money!

I worked in a direct sales company in Sydney where I learned many skills that still serve me today. The most important being how to have a positive attitude. I started training others and after spells in Melbourne, Auckland and London, I finally set up my own direct advertising company in Nottingham at the age of 25. A dream come true!

I expanded to a second location in Leeds but as I tried to help that office grow, my original office suffered and I realised that that dream was over. Time for a new challenge!

I took stock and thought hard about what I had enjoyed about the experience and it became clear that my passion was for teaching and training.

I did a CELTA course in London in 1998 and taught English in London before moving to Mexico City first as a teacher and then as the Academic Coordinator before becoming the Academic Director.

In 2002, I decided to return to Europe to be closer to my family and did the DELTA (Diploma in Teaching) in Barcelona that year.

I started teaching at Merit School, soon became a coordinator and in 2006 I became the Assistant Director of Studies, the position I hold today.

Two other passions of mine are writing and presenting and in my free time I have been fortunate to be able to pursue these and work in a range of exciting fields.

Personal Stuff

In my free time I like to work on my ‘side projects’ (see above) but my number one hobby is being the best husband to my beautiful wife Conxi and taking care of our lovely home with the help of Marie Kondo.

We love travelling and eating well (both in restaurants and at home) and we enjoy travel and food photography.

Conxi’s culinary specialities are ‘croquetas’, while my star dishes are lasagne and lentil stew.

At the moment, I am making a lot of healthy smoothies.

I support Liverpool and Barcelona (football) and have enjoyed many, many moments watching these amazing teams!

That’s all for the moment!
